3 Suggestions to Ease the Process of a State-to-State Move
Though the process may never be entirely stress-free, the following three steps can help lessen your tension.
Tip 1: If possible, complete your paperwork in advance.
Moving always requires updating your permanent address. Important documents, websites, and service providers will all need to be updated. Handling these steps in advance might allow you to check this item off your agenda and focus more completely on your new residence when you get there.
If you move from state-to-state, however, you have the added task of procuring a new driver's license in addition. Like with change of address rules, the majority of states have a set amount of time by which you need to exchange your old license for a new one, so be sure that you confirm with your new state's DMV website to fully grasp the time period in which getting a new license will be a requirement.
Various states require an in-person visit to the DMV, others let you to finish the entire process online. Managing this step pre-move will lessen the transition and free up priceless settling-in time in your new state of residence—especially during a pandemic, when concerns of virus spread complicate even the most basic chores.
Tip 2: Pack with both short-term and long-term trips in mind.
In one way, a state-to-state move is similar to a road trip and a move all bundled into one. Not only are you packing up all your worldly things for transportation, but you are in addition arranging to spend at least a day or two road-tripping to reach your new town.
Before you arrive at the final chores of packing up, always be certain to take a moment to pack bags for yourself (and, if applicable, for your family) which will have everything you will require for the next several days travelling:
- Face masks and hand sanitizer
- Changes of clothes
- Toiletries
- Medications
- ID's and documentation
- Cash
Additionally don't forget about your furry family members! Be sure they have a few days' worth of supplies available as well.
Tip 3: Choose an experienced interstate moving company in San Antonio.
All moving companies have specialties. While some are great for local relocations, others have built systems and structures to support interstate and cross-country moves. If talking to potential moving companies in San Antonio, always be certain to ask direct questions regarding their skills and areas of expertise. Make sure to look at consumer reviews, question friends and contacts and take their suggestions into consideration.
While it's tempting just to choose the cheapest offer you find after a fast Google search, we have all been around long enough to know that the most affordable quote is not always the wisest choice after all.
